Independent Contractor Description

Citizens for Local Power Bookkeeper 

Citizens for Local Power (CLP) helps communities in the Mid-Hudson Region transition to a locally-based, clean energy economy. Combining research, education, advocacy, and project coordination, CLP supports community and municipal engagement in energy decision-making, transforming energy policy and practice to strengthen local economies, mitigate climate change and increase resilience.

CLP is currently looking to hire a bookkeeper. We anticipate the start of the position to require more hours in order to establish a QuickBooks account and accounting system. During “slower” weeks, the bookkeeper must still be available to process Income and bills, as well as perform bi-weekly invoices.  

The bookkeeper needs to possess a good grasp of financial reporting, a high level of mathematical and problem-solving skills, and because they need to submit and often explain complex financial concepts to people without a financial background, superior communication skills. 

 

The Bookkeeper must have:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business, and at least one year of progressive accounting experience. 

    1. Or, at least an Associate’s Degree, with additional years of experience.

  2. Experience in QuickBooks, Excel, and Google Drive.

  3. Experience in Non-profit 501(c) 3 Accounting is ideal.

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Code and enter all bills into QuickBooks and render payment via check or Adelante credit card transaction.

  • Enter all deposits that go into an operational banking account. Code in Donor Management Excel as necessary. 

  • Process and reimburse Employee Mileage and Expenditure Requests with proper receipts and documentation. 

  • Process bi-weekly payments to our Program Coordinators and Green Jobs interns. 

  • Review accounts for accuracy and verifies that the business of CLP is being transacted in compliance with CLP policy, local, County, State, and Federal laws. 

  • Prepare budget analysis, Profit and Loss, and other financial statements for biannual Board of Directors meetings using Quickbooks.

  • Regular check-ins with the Program Coordinator and Executive Board as needed.

  • Coordinate, assist with, and prepare the Annual Budget.

  • Ensure the organization secures an annual Review or Audit from an outside entity and provides all necessary documentation and requirements to that entity.

  • Make and secure copies of all documents and deliver them to our Board Treasurer as needed to complete the Annual 990 form and Financial Review / Audit.*** 

  • Make sure all Employee forms, (I-9s, W-4s, etc.) are complete and in compliance with Labor law.

Independent Contractor Compensation: Compensation based on experience.
