“The commission has a perfect opportunity right now, in the Central Hudson rate case, to reform this company’s rates, which have been a problem for a really long time,” explained CLP Director Jen Metzger. “Central Hudson’s fixed charges are the highest in the state, at $24 and they are proposing to raise them to $24, which is up to five times higher than in other states. In most cities across the country, those charges average between $5 and $10; in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island, the are between $3 and $6.”
