Creating a clean, green, livable future together

We know climate change is impacting the world and our communities.

What can we do here in Kingston to address it locally?

EMPOWER KINGSTON will involve the community and faith-based leaders and service organizations in putting together a plan that can bring real change and real jobs to the city, a plan that gives control over local energy back to local people.

CLIMATE ACTION PLAN 2030

The changes threaten our community’s resilience and will hurt the people most who have the least resources. Most crucially, it puts at risk our children’s future.

What’s the opportunity? The City of Kingston has set a goal of achieving 100% renewable energy use and is creating a new Climate Action Plan that will include practical steps we can all take to get there. The city wants the community to be an integral part of the planning and decision-making process.

We know we won’t get there until we all pitch in, get the people who are most affected involved and inspire everyone to help get the clean energy transition done.

EMPOWER KINGSTON GREEN JOBS

On September 8, Citizens for Local Power (CLP) welcomed eight interns to the launch of the first Empower Kingston Green Jobs Internship Program. The diverse group of interns are from Kingston, New Paltz, Rhinebeck, and Saugerties. Thanks to the group of committed local contractors and specialists who have shown them the ropes at their worksites and in online classes, each intern received a once-in-a-lifetime chance to explore the burgeoning field. For four weeks, the interns explored different facets of our fast-changing energy system, spending three days working on job sites with a local contractor and two days attending classes.
